About the Chickadee
I’m Sarah, and I am a history and anthropology major at Northern Kentucky University. I still live with my parents, my sister, and many animals.
I discovered plants during a “forced” break from my education. I had been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, and going to school full time was tough, so I withdrew from most of my classes to get a handle on my situation. My father told me to put a garden in — if I wasn’t going to be in school full time or working, I was going to be productive anyways. So I bought seeds, the tools, everything I needed.
And the garden promtly failed. I apparently made the dirt so good for my veggies, the weeds soon took over. With that, the FMS, and an usually hot summer, I wasn’t able to stay on top of things. But this was the seed that started my obsession — I soon discovered houseplants while buying the items for the garden. I did have many things succeed, though – my herbs did well, along with my mini roses, gourds, and morning glories.
Soon I found African Violets, and attended my first national convention. Amaryllis came next, along with succulents and cacti. My room and the dining room started to slowly fill, and I was lucky enough to have a beau that helped me assemble a green room as a Christmas gift. Now I work in different areas of propagation, and I love all types of plants. The green room is doing well, and this spring will bring a new garden, hopefully a more productive one.
